Job Title Group Leader

Summary Under the supervision of the Area Manager, this position is responsible for leading people in the movement of materials through their designated areas. The Group Leader instructs employees in safety, quality, productivity and efficiency standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work in a safe manner at all times by following all safety guidelines.

Ensure safe work practices in the area by all personnel: welders, painters, assemblers, material handlers, inventory coordinators, and visitors.

Train employees on the proper safety practices and processes of proper PPE usage, equipment usage, and good housekeeping and organization.

Research equipment failure, design deviations, incorrectly made parts, and resolve problems to complete the process in a timely manner.

Test or assist in testing operation and shipment of completed product.

Ensure that quality policies and practices are followed by all personnel under their supervision.

Train employees on the proper quality practices and processes of weld standards, paint standards, and assembly standards.

Communicate production schedules to area employees.

Set up all jobs utilizing jigs/fixtures according to Weiler blueprints and process sheets.

Monitor and adjust production plans for assembly, weld, or paint to meet production schedules.

Work towards improvement of daily goals of assigned work areas.

Follow up on projects as needed to ensure project dates are being met.

Assist the Area Manager in monitoring area performance through established methods.

Foster open communication from employees.

Maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness and cooperation within a group.

Oversee a designated area/department and assist when the Area Manager is absent.

Work Environment The work environment is typical for office administrative work; exposure to loud noises, moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles may occur. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses is required in certain areas.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required.

3–5 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment or additional related education required.

Skills and Abilities

Read, write and comprehend documents and correspondence.

Effectively present information to internal and external individuals and groups.

Apply basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) in all units of measure.

Basic computer skills with ability to look up information (prints, BOM).

Read measuring devices: tape measure, weld fillet gauge, calipers, micrometer, level, square, sight gages, protractor or angle finder.

Read schematics and Weiler blueprints as needed.

Possess solid analytical skills and high accuracy.

Prior experience with a computer preferred.

Prior experience with Weiler blueprints and shop floor knowledge preferred.

Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and resolve them effectively.

Multitask and prioritize due to a wide variety of daily responsibilities.

Physical Demands

Communicate verbally, read documents on paper and on computer screens.

Stand and walk regularly.

Sit and type.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
