Schedule Variable Schedule (5 days per week). Sunday through Saturday (must be available for 2 weekend days a month). Between hours of 5:00 AM - 11:00 PM. Variable shifts at Research Park, Sandy Donor Center, and mobile blood drives. Flexible to work holidays and weekends as needed. Travel required for mobile office work (Blood Drives). Shift differential of $1.50 for work hours.

Primary Purpose Work with the Donor Collection Specialist Trainer until competency is achieved.

Operate in a highly regulated manufacturing environment to collect and modify blood products for transfusion.

Maintain traceability and trackability for all manufacturing steps.

Perform data handling, medical history screening, physical examinations, donor collection, mobile drive setup, quality control, equipment maintenance, and problem-solving.

Essential Functions

Greets and registers donors accurately.

Collects, evaluates, and documents donor information for allogeneic, autologous, and directed donors.

Performs medical history and limited physical examinations per SOP.

Travels to mobile sites, assists Lead Tech with setup and breakdown of blood drives.

Prepares and packages whole blood units for shipment to processing.

Maintains complete and accurate documentation of each procedure.

Provides donor care, monitors reactions, and documents them accurately.

Provides CPR and requests emergency care when needed.

Responds to refrigerator, freezer, or incubator alarms.

Documents quality control and equipment maintenance.

Complies with safety and biohazard regulations per the Laboratory Safety Manual.

Answers telephone calls courteously and directs issues appropriately.

Maintains a clean work area and cleans equipment after spills.

Obtain supplies from storeroom, using the oldest stock first.

Attend laboratory meetings and in-services as required.

Complete competency requirements within the stated timeframe.

Observe data security and patient confidentiality.

Maintain ethical standards in interactions with donors, patients, co-workers, and healthcare professionals.

Communicate effectively with management to identify potential problems.

Recruit donors by telephone when needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical And Other Requirements

Stooping and bending at the waist.

Reaching with arms and hands.

Occasional mobility between work sites.

Effective communication skills.

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in a biohazard environment per CDC and OSHA regulations.

Compliance with ARUP policies and procedures.

Medium work: lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.

Fine motor control for handling equipment.

Full vision with close, far, and peripheral acuity; color vision.

Qualifications Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent (or better).

Experience

Required: Pass the ARUP Donor Collection Specialist Examination within 9 months of hire.

Preferred: One year of experience in a clinical laboratory, blood bank, or blood collection facility.

Preferred: One year of previous customer service experience.

Preferred: Six months of previous phlebotomy experience.
