Clinical Practice Assistant – Gastroenterology Join Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Gastroenterology Clinic at East Campus in Boston, Massachusetts. The clinic is a fast‑paced, team‑oriented outpatient practice that provides care for patients with digestive health concerns. The role focuses on office visits only (no procedures) and includes an in‑clinic phlebotomy lab.

Essential Responsibilities

Communicates with and assists patients, other staff, and the public in a courteous and helpful manner by phone and in person; provides accurate information, directions, and follow‑up to ensure needs are met.

Takes complete and accurate information from patients or callers, prioritizes the information, and facilitates communication of the information to providers.

Prepares schedules, patient charts, and other documents as needed in accordance with quality standards; maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

Performs check‑in, registration, and verification of demographic and fiscal information using the computer system.

Enters data from visit tickets and ensures information is complete, accurate, and timely to facilitate billing.

Collects copayments following standard copayment processes and directs patients at time of check‑in.

Schedules related diagnostic and lab tests, making every reasonable effort to accommodate patient and provider needs; inputs insurance and managed‑care plans, including prior authorizations, referrals, and pre‑certifications.

Verifies patient schedules to assure patients were seen and enters billing tickets into the system.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Basic familiarity with computers; ability to navigate web‑based applications.

MA, EMT, CNA, LNA certificate or diploma; or at least 5 months of direct patient‑care experience in a clinical or research setting (e.g., medical assistant, patient‑care technician, clinical nursing assistant, or nursing/medical student with one clinical rotation).

Preferred Qualifications

Phlebotomy certificate.

Provides high‑level customer service to patients, visitors, staff, and external customers in a professional, respectful manner, using active listening and problem‑solving skills; remains calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Exerts up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 50 pounds frequently; requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.
