SMBC is seeking a Vice President to lead the enhancement of credit risk identification and risk appetite framework across the Americas Division portfolio. The role governs credit risk metrics, partners with lines of business to measure and manage potential credit risks, and works with senior leadership, Finance, and the Credit Department to establish and monitor risk appetite limits. Key responsibilities include improving underwriting standards, refining credit risk guidelines, and coordinating with stakeholders to enhance the credit risk appetite framework. Role Objectives: Delivery
Conduct regular materiality assessments of potential portfolio risks leveraging credit risk taxonomy and identification processes across all lines of business. Identify appropriate methodology and data sources to quantify financial and non‑financial risks. Track emerging risks and ensure they are accounted for in the inventory. Lead the governance of the credit risk metrics annual review process to align with business objectives and credit risk appetite. Support the enhancement and management of the credit risk appetite framework. Interact with business units to support risk control measures, credit underwriting standards, and maintain communication with credit approval functions. Synthesize credit matters and develop contextual content for presentations to senior management and regulators. Mentor junior members of the team. Role Objectives: Interpersonal
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to distill complex credit issues for stakeholders. Proven leadership skills with direct reports, colleagues, and senior management. Ability to work cross‑functionally and capture multiple viewpoints. Effective communication at all levels of the organization, including regulators. Role Objectives: Expertise
Expert understanding of credit risk management concepts, rating methodologies, and commercial credit products. In‑depth knowledge of U.S. and international regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Experience with the end‑to‑end credit lifecycle and credit risk frameworks. Experience with credit process management, approval flows, and governance. Excellent analytical skills, problem‑solving, attention to detail. Project management experience preferred. Qualifications And Skills
7+ years of experience in the financial services industry. Experience in global financial services preferred. Education: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field. Preferred: Advanced degree or certification, such as MBA, FRM, or other risk‑management certifications.
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $145,000.00 and $177,000.00. The specific salary offered will be based on individual qualifications, experience, and market analysis at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award.
