Required Qualifications
One year recent experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist
Valid ARRT or RCIS/RCES certification
Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
Preferred Qualifications
Current ACLS certification (AHA/ARC)
Valid radiologic technologist license per state regulations
PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC certification
Other certifications or licenses may be required
Summary The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist assists physicians in performing minimally invasive procedures using advanced imaging technology. Responsibilities include patient preparation, operating imaging modalities, maintaining sterile fields, monitoring vital signs, administering contrast, ensuring radiation safety, and performing equipment troubleshooting.
Essential Work Functions
Prepare and position patients for IR procedures
Operate imaging equipment including fluoroscopy, CT, and ultrasound
Assist physicians by scrubbing in, passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field
Monitor and document patient vital signs and procedural details
Administer contrast media and monitor for adverse reactions
Ensure radiation safety measures for patients, staff, and self
Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment
Manage and restock procedural supplies
Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and team members for seamless patient care
Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory protocols
Provide patient education before, during, and after procedures
Perform other duties as assigned to support IR lab operations
Adhere to hospital safety protocols and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills
Critical thinking, service excellence, and interpersonal communication
Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English
Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and PC skills
Physical ability to remain stationary, move equipment, lift 50‑100 lbs, push, pull, and bend
Interpersonal skills to work with diverse personnel with professionalism
Technical/motor skills for fine manipulation and assistance with procedures
Mental requirements to handle frequent public contact, deadlines, and concentration
Sensory: visual acuity and effective communication
