In this role, you will focus on High Time in Service (HTIS) Quality Issues, understand root causes, develop methods to catch issues sooner, build robust processes to avert future problems, and support best practices for service. This position involves fast‑paced projects related to design/physics quality issues that typically manifest later in product life. You will help reduce warranty spend and improve failure rates, supporting Ford’s quality improvement goals.
Job Description Responsibilities
Lead/support High Time in Service Quality Projects using Design for Six Sigma / 8D processes on aggressive timelines to support IPTSE’s warranty spend and failure rate reduction targets.
Evaluate high warranty spend/failure rate subsystems and engine/vehicle applications, focusing on issues contributing to >12 months of warranty and/or design/physics related issues.
Rapidly work through the Define, Characterize, Optimize, and Verify phases of the DFSS process, including root‑cause identification, verification, implementation of ICA/PCA, read‑across, and recurrence prevention.
Present project status and results frequently to senior management, interface with quality, powerpack and core engineers, TS’s, and maintain required project documentation (1‑pagers, 6‑panels, 8D reports, management summaries, etc.).
Focus on warranty data/trend analysis, part return analysis, and physical understanding of engine/powertrain systems to identify root cause and corrective actions.
Develop relationships with dealerships and fleets as a source of quick HTIS quality issue identification and resolution.
Design, execute or coordinate analytical and physical testing from component bench level to full powertrain/vehicle testing to validate fixes.
Document lessons learned for knowledge preservation.
Lead or attend team meetings.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience with internal combustion engines, thermal systems, or after‑treatment systems in Design, Test, Controls, or Calibration.
2+ years of experience in project leadership, driving initiatives to meet milestones and KPIs.
Even Better If
6‑Sigma green belt, black belt, and Design for Six Sigma experience.
Familiarity with Ford’s Strategic Problem Solving tools and root‑cause identification tools.
Experience with Ford’s Failure Mode Avoidance and Robustness and Reliability processes (P‑Diagram, DFMEA, RCL, etc.).
Experience with Ford’s quality tools (GSAR, MWATS, QED, etc.).
Knowledge of key engine/powertrain subsystems.
Strong project management, problem solving, and organization skills.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Self‑starter capable of managing multiple work streams simultaneously.
