The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure is currently seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Engineering Services – Specifications team.
Responsibilities
Evaluate appropriate and cost-effective foundation support systems and bearing capacities of shallow and deep foundations.
Perform geotechnical studies and projects in subsurface investigations.
Conduct soil/foundation engineering, pile analysis and design, retaining wall design, bridge structures, settlement analysis, lateral earth pressures, and slope stability.
Perform forensic engineering and site investigations.
Write reports and provide geotechnical engineering support during construction.
Minimum Qualifications
At least six years of full‑time satisfactory experience in construction management work on capital projects, each with a dollar value of at least $15,000, with at least eighteen months in a managerial or consultative capacity.
Full‑time satisfactory experience in construction inspection on capital projects, each with a dollar value of at least $15,000. One year of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of construction inspection experience up to a maximum of four years.
Full‑time satisfactory experience in building construction as a journeyperson in one or more of the skilled building construction trades. One year of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of journeyperson experience up to a maximum of four years.
Education in an accredited college leading to a bachelor's degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or air pollution control, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, or sanitary engineering. Credit will be given on the basis of 30 credits for one year of acceptable experience up to a maximum of four years.
A New York State license as a professional engineer or registered architect, or a license from a state that has reciprocity with New York State may be substituted for the four years of education and experience described above.
License Requirements
Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York and maintenance of that license during employment.

Preferred Skills

Robust supervision experience.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
Knowledge relevant to infrastructure construction work (i.e., roadway, sewer, and/or water main).
Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
Comprehensive understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices.
Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling (optional).
Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (preferred).
Valid driver's license (required). Personal vehicle (optional).
