Summary of Position The Manufacturing Engineer will support Business Unit team members in problem solving, Lean and Continuous Improvement activities, and process development. The candidate will focus on improving product quality, production efficiency and reducing waste in our extrusion process.
Responsibilities
Shall adhere to all safety, health and environmental procedures, policies and practices.
Comply with all QMS/EMS/ISO procedures and work instructions.
Optimize current process and develop new extrusion processes.
Ensure all Manufacturing Engineering activities are carried out safely and address unsafe practices.
Support and understand the JAC Products Development System (JPDS) and deliver all ME deliverables under JPDS.
Verify BOM accuracy for parts manufactured on assigned cells.
Support packaging development and ensure BOMs & packaging instructions are accurate.
Prepare project cost estimates, budgets, ROI, and CARs.
Work with Launch Managers, Facility Tooling, and Equipment Suppliers to develop assembly fixtures and equipment.
Ensure work cells are set‑up properly to meet run‑rate and specifications.
Develop and maintain process work instructions.
Participate in quality stand‑downs and use problem‑solving tools (8D, 5Why, Fishbone, DOE).
Track cell metrics: scrap, downtime, change‑over, repair/FTY, labor efficiency.
Maintain job books for each part number.
Lead productivity and cost‑reducing activities and support continuous improvement.
Implement lean manufacturing concepts on assigned cells and involve operators, maintenance, and tooling personnel.
Implement Engineering Changes for assigned cells and ensure documentation for PPAP.
Assist in audits of the Quality Management System for assigned cells.
Train Business Unit team members and operators on safety devices, manufacturing build process, standard work, PFMEA, work instructions, cell layout, and metrics.
Interface with suppliers on processes, productivity, and product improvements.
Skills & Competencies
Advanced technical knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, extrusion, fabrication, metal roll‑forming, and heat treat.
Advanced knowledge of manufacturing process design and work cell layout.
Advanced knowledge of problem‑solving and process improvement tools and techniques.
Knowledge of datum structure and design for manufacturing.
Strong working knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts and standard work.
Basic computer skills and familiarity with current technology software.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Education
High School Diploma or GED is required for all new hires.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent/relevant technical experience is required.
Preferred Experience
Three (3) or more years’ experience in the relevant manufacturing process(s).
For the heat treat process: minimum 5 years of experience in heat treat operations or combination of formal metallurgical education and experience.
Practical, successful experience in work‑cell layout.
Practical, successful experience in development of Standard Work.
Successful Product Launch / Production Start‑up experience, including all documentation, testing, data collection, and reporting.
Experience leading the PPAP process to successful conclusion.
Experience leading cost savings and performance improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to regularly stand or walk for long periods of time.
Ability to travel (air and ground).
Ability to regularly lift up to 10 pounds, frequently lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Exposure to vibration, repetitive motion, bending, lifting, twisting, crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling.
