Senior Water Resources Engineer (Vermont)
VHB’s Water Resources group is growing across New England, and we are looking for a Senior Hydraulics & Hydrology Engineer with strong technical expertise to lead innovative water‑resource solutions. The role focuses on helping clients develop strategic, cost‑effective, and forward‑thinking approaches to riverine, ecological restoration, and water‑resource challenges across site to watershed scales.
Responsibilities
Lead multi‑disciplinary projects with hydrologic, hydraulic, and resiliency components, coordinating with staff, regulatory agencies, and clients.
Conduct hydrologic, hydraulic, and scour studies for riverine and coastal environments using tools such as HEC‑HMS, HEC‑RAS, HydroCAD, HY‑8, EPA SWMM, SRH‑2D/SMS, CHAMP, and others.
Analyze and design bridge and culvert replacements, dam rehabilitation and removal projects, scour protection, and flood resiliency improvements, incorporating both hardened features and nature‑based solutions or living shorelines.
Perform FEMA “no‑rise” analyses and assist clients with FEMA map revisions.
Develop technical reports, design plans, construction documents, and specifications for water‑resource related projects.
Lead construction administration for water‑resource projects.
Collaborate with VHB’s integrated team to evaluate permit requirements and support permit application development.
Attend and present at meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.
Lead the development of project proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates.
Mentor staff and expand the technical resources of the team.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Superior ability in collaborative problem‑solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates.
Advanced understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling programs and the ability to select and apply the appropriate approach to unique projects.
Experience and interest in staff development and mentorship.
Understanding of local, state, and federal permitting.
Qualifications
BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum of 11–15 years of professional water‑resources engineering and analysis experience.
PE license required.
Location & Salary Castleton, VT | Estimated salary: $120,000–$145,000.
