Job Description Summary The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is a licensed health care professional responsible for the design, development, administration, training and evaluation of Occupational Health Services and Wellness programs for BD, Broken Bow. The OHN develops policies and procedures for Occupational Health Services that are compatible with corporate goals and objectives, as well as coordinates the worker’s compensation and health/wellness programs for the site. Additionally, the OHN leads the ADA/Job Accommodation process, promotes health maintenance, prevention of illness and injury, coordinates regulated medical surveillance, and provides consultative guidance on occupational health issues. The OHN communicates with Human Resources and Plant Leadership concerning health related situations and develops intervention programs to support strategic objectives. The OHN is a strategic partner with the Safety and Training Supervisor in the implementation of site safety programs.

Essential Functions

Responsible for programs to impact the health and wellbeing of Associates including assessment, nursing care, and referral for occupational and non‑occupational illnesses and injuries.

Designs, develops, implements, and manages Employee Health and Wellness Programs, policies, and protocols to meet Corporate Health goals and objectives and meet strategic goals of the business. Promotes health maintenance and prevention of illness and injury at work and in the community.

Develops and implements health surveillance programs for employees at potential risk for occupational exposures and illnesses.

Consults and coordinates services with benefits administrators to maintain quality and cost‑effective use of company medical, disability and workers compensation benefit plans.

Liaison for contract agencies and human resources for management of FMLA. Consults with Associates and leadership, regarding FMLA time.

Manages Employee Assistance Program. Principal interface with HR and EAP for supervisor referrals for job performance issues, counsels with associate and facilities referrals to EAP as appropriate. Provides confidential counseling and advisor on health matters.

Administers Hearing Conservation Program for all employees at risk, including monitoring and surveillance. Coordinates with Safety and Training Supervisor for noise hazard analysis, counseling employees regarding noise exposure and hearing loss as necessary.

Manages and coordinates Business compliance to OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard. Identifies that all associates at risk complete annual training. Administers Hepatitis B immunization program.

Manages Physical Capacity Profile assessment process.

Promotes safe work environment as a member of Safety Steering Team. Provides analysis of occupational illness and injury data to assist Safety Steering Team and site leadership in the development of health and safety programs.

Manages Worker’s Compensation. Completes all business, federal (OSHA), state and insurance reporting requirements. Maintains OSHA log and other reports as required by regulation and corporate departments. Provides on‑going case management for all Associates sustaining an occupational injury or illness. Knowledgeable of OSHA and Worker’s Compensation legal requirements. Provides analysis of Worker’s Compensation costs and identifies areas where loss experience can be improved.

Along with the Safety and Training Supervisor, has responsibility for Emergency Preparedness. Schedules training for the Emergency Response Team, participates in Hazmat training exercises, maintains the AED’s and other emergency equipment. Participates on the Business Continuity / Pandemic team.

Maintains contact with regional and national organizations related to occupational health. Monitors legislative and regulatory occupational health developments. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field. Communicates data to appropriate personnel within the business. Utilizes community resources as appropriate for the benefit of Associate’s health and safety.

Maintains all individual medical records confidentially and according to legal and company guidelines.

Complies with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures including RCRA Hazardous waste regulations.

Complies with all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.
