BioHive Utah
BioHive (www.biohive.com) is a Utah-based nonprofit organization that brands, builds and brings together one of the nation’s fastest growing life science industries. BioHive is searching for an Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and influence. This is a rare opportunity to shape a statewide innovation brand, build strategic partnerships across sectors and drive investment and visibility for one of the most promising life sciences regions in the country.
The successful candidate will be a visionary, relationship-oriented leader who thrives at the intersection of industry, government and community to bring together diverse stakeholders to advance Utah’s life sciences industry and amplify the state's global reputation as a hub for innovation and impact. They will have a strong public presence, be strategic, decisive and capable of translating vision into measurable impact.
A public‑private partnership, BioHive unites companies, researchers, educators, and entrepreneurs across biotechnology, diagnostics, medical devices, therapeutics, digital health, and biomanufacturing.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
Lead and execute BioHive’s strategic vision and annual priorities in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
Serve as a trusted thought partner to industry executives, government leaders, and academic partners.
Represent BioHive and the state’s life sciences community at the local, state, and national levels.
Design and implement a sustainable fundraising and sponsorship strategy that supports BioHive’s mission and growth.
Build and steward relationships with corporate, philanthropic, and public‑sector partners.
Secure grants and strategic investments to expand programs, communications, and workforce initiatives.
Brand & Visibility
Elevate BioHive’s presence as the unifying voice of Utah’s life sciences community.
Lead storytelling, media engagement, and thought leadership that highlight the sector’s innovation and impact.
Strengthen brand awareness locally, nationally, and internationally through strategic communications and partnerships.
Partnerships & Ecosystem Development
Cultivate collaboration with BioUtah, the State of Utah, higher education, national labs, and industry leaders.
Advance initiatives that promote innovation, workforce growth, and community impact.
Serve as a connector between emerging companies, established industry anchors, and public agencies.
Organizational Management
Lead and mentor a small, high‑performing team and manage consultants and project partners.
Oversee budgeting, operations, and performance metrics with accountability and transparency.
Report regularly to the Board of Directors on progress toward strategic goals.
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in life sciences, leadership, or related sectors.
Demonstrated success in fundraising, business development, or strategic partnerships.
Proven ability to build coalitions and communicate effectively with senior leaders across industry and government.
Deep understanding of Utah’s innovation and economic development landscape is strongly preferred.
Exceptional communicator with expertise in brand positioning and external relations.
Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for advancing innovation and community prosperity.
