Senior Software Engineer (Linux Kernel) – Sony Interactive Entertainment Sony Interactive Entertainment, a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation, is seeking a highly skilled kernel networking device driver developer with deep expertise in Linux kernel NIC drivers.

Responsibilities

Design and implement NIC device drivers for the Linux kernel.

Profile and optimize drivers to achieve low latency and high throughput under heavy workloads.

Diagnose and fix kernel‑level issues, including crashes and hardware/software interactions.

Collaborate with NIC hardware designers to understand device specifications, perform bring‑up hardware tests, and validate firmware‑driver interaction.

Produce detailed technical documentation for driver design and debugging procedures.

Required Background

BS in Computer Science/Software Engineering or 5+ years of relevant work experience.

Proficiency in C and its debugging tools.

Proven experience developing Linux Kernel NIC device drivers.

Strong knowledge of the Linux kernel internals, especially the network stack.

Strong debugging, analysis, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.

Ability to work closely with hardware, driver, and network teams to ensure seamless integration.

Preferred Skills

Hands‑on experience developing drivers for multifunction PCIe devices.

Familiarity with network hardware and stack offloads.

Understanding of PCIe architecture.

Experience upstreaming to the Linux kernel.

Experience with NVMe protocol (plus).

FreeBSD driver experience (plus).

Additional Skills

Enjoys working in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Knowledge of Japanese language and culture is a plus.

Base Pay Range:

$177,300—$265,900 USD
