Overview The Office of Legal Affairs, under the direction of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, provides legal representation and advice to the University and all of its constituent parts, including the Board of Trustees, the President, the Wexner Medical Center, the Office of Academic Affairs, Student Life, Athletics, Human Resources, Business and Finance, among many others. Ohio State is a multifaceted institution with a high‑level legal practice touching nearly every area of law, including litigation, labor and employment law, constitutional law, civil rights law, construction and public contracting, intellectual property, business transactions, real estate, tax and benefits, public safety and criminal law matters, immigration law, sports law, administrative law, health care law, and privacy matters.

Responsibilities Under the day‑to‑day direction of the Senior Associate Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel provides legal advice and services to the Office of Business and Finance, the Office of the Treasurer, Office of Investments, and Office of the University Bursar, and to department heads and administrators in sophisticated business practice areas such as governance, banking and financial services, debt, capital formation, mergers & acquisitions, and securities law. The Associate General Counsel drafts, reviews and negotiates contracts and other legal instruments, including sophisticated limited partnership agreements for investment funds, conducts and supervises legal research, manages outside counsel, and initiates and implements special projects. Must have approval of the Ohio Attorney General's Office prior to appointment to serve as an Assistant Attorney General of Ohio.

Required Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.), graduate from an accredited law school and be a member of the Ohio bar or eligible to practice law in the State of Ohio within one year. Must have approval of the Ohio Attorney General's Office prior to hire. A minimum of six (6) years of experience in a law firm or corporation focused on sophisticated business and commercial transactions.
