We’re a creative, collaborative, and mission‑driven organization seeking a skilled Technical Director to help bring exceptional productions to life.
Position Summary The Technical Director (TD) oversees all technical aspects of Limelight Theatre’s productions and events. The role ensures that sets, lighting, sound, props, and backstage operations are executed safely, efficiently, and artistically while staying within budget and schedule. The TD works closely with directors, designers, staff, and volunteers to turn artistic vision into on‑stage reality, balancing creativity with practicality.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and supervise all technical elements of productions, including scenic construction, lighting, sound, projections, and special effects.
Interpret design plans and translate them into actionable build and production schedules.
Source, rent, or purchase materials and equipment within approved budgets.
Oversee smooth load‑ins, technical rehearsals, performances, and strikes.
Serve as the central liaison between directors, designers, stage managers, and theatre administration.
Recruit, train, and supervise technical staff, volunteers, and hired crews.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety‑first work environment.
Maintain and upgrade the theatre’s technical equipment (lighting, sound, tools, rigging, etc.).
Enforce safety standards for all technical operations.
Organize and maintain scenic, prop, and equipment storage areas.
Develop and manage production budgets in collaboration with theatre leadership.
Create and maintain build, tech, and strike schedules to meet production deadlines.
Qualifications
Proven experience in technical theatre, preferably in a community, regional, or educational theatre setting.
Proficiency in scenic construction, lighting systems, sound systems, and theatrical rigging.
Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
Ability to lead and motivate diverse teams of professionals and volunteers.
Willingness to work evenings and weekends during productions.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb ladders or work at height.
Manual dexterity in handling tools and technical equipment.
Preferred Skills (a plus, not required)
CAD drafting or similar design software experience.
Familiarity with LED lighting technology and sound editing software.
Knowledge of projection systems and multimedia integration.
