Position Overview We are seeking an experienced
Senior COBOL Developer
with deep expertise in
IBM mainframe systems
to join our enterprise technology team. This role is critical to maintaining and modernizing legacy systems that support core business operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in
COBOL ,
JCL ,
DB2 ,
MQ , and
CICS , and will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and supporting mainframe applications within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain COBOL-based applications on IBM mainframe platforms.
Analyze business requirements and translate them into efficient technical solutions.
Refactor and optimize legacy code for improved performance and maintainability.
Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and business analysis teams throughout the SDLC.
Perform unit, integration, and user acceptance testing; support production deployments.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues promptly and effectively.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation and system specifications.
Participate in peer code reviews and mentor junior developers as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
7+ years of experience in COBOL development on IBM mainframe systems.
Strong knowledge of
JCL, DB2, MQ, VSAM, CICS, and TSO/ISPF .
Experience with both batch and online processing.
Proficiency with mainframe debugging tools (e.g., Abend-AID, Xpediter).
Solid understanding of SDLC processes and Agile development practices.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Strong documentation and organizational abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in
financial services
or
insurance
industries.
Exposure to
mainframe modernization tools
and strategies (e.g., Micro Focus, API integration).
Familiarity with
scheduling tools
such as Control-M or CA-7.
Experience with
enterprise change management
and
ticketing systems .
