Staff Nurse – Inpatient Med/Psych – 24hr
Connecticut Children’s
Under general supervision, you will assume 24‑hour accountability to plan and provide direct professional nursing care for specified patients throughout the entire episode of service delivery, as defined by the population and unit. You will provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with professional nursing standards, Connecticut Children’s policies & procedures, The Joint Commission, and state & federal regulations. Reports to the Nurse Manager.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate clinical expertise and use the nursing process to provide safe, appropriate patient care to a defined population according to policies and standards.
Demonstrate knowledge of behavioral and medical needs, and apply them to practice while showing cultural sensitivity.
Foster effective team dynamics, delegate duties, and support unit leadership as a Resource Nurse or preceptor/mentor.
Complete all required documentation and communicate information effectively to the health care team.
Partner with children and families in evaluating outcomes and provide education per policies.
Show support for the mission, values, and goals of Connecticut Children’s through consistent behavior.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
ASN required upon hire; BSN preferred upon hire and required within 3 years.
License and Certifications:
Current Connecticut Registered Nurse licensure; current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR in adult, child & infant; specialty licensure or certification as specified; Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training certification within 3 months.
Knowledge:
Nursing theory and practice; behavioral health diagnoses & medications; therapeutic interventions; state regulations; clinical standards; documentation policies; teaching techniques; population‑specific assessment; accreditation requirements.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication; de‑escalation techniques; computer proficiency in Windows & relevant software; Internet research tool use.
Abilities:
Work individually or in teams; make clinical decisions using nursing process; maintain confidentiality; delegate appropriately; effective oral & written communication; maintain professional boundaries and composure during stressful situations.
