Blair + Mui Dowd Architects is a medium-sized architectural firm located in New York City, specializing in programming, planning, and design of clinical, educational, research, and community facilities. Our expertise spans new construction, vertical expansion, occupied renovation, and adaptive reuse across a range of scales.
We are currently seeking a talented and enthusiastic Junior Designer with 2+ years experience in commercial and/or institutional design. Experience in healthcare, laboratory, or education projects is a plus. The candidate will work with a team on projects ranging from master planning to complex healthcare and laboratory projects for nationally recognized institutions.
Position Responsibilities
Collaborate with a team of designers in all phases of small, medium, and large-scale projects, under the direction of a Project Manager or Principal.
Research and develop architectural design concepts that match the client and firm’s aesthetic, functional goals, and budget.
Assist the Project Manager or Principal with coordination with clients and running project meetings.
Design and develop presentation drawings, construction documents, and all project-related materials, including administrative responsibilities.
Conduct field surveys and existing condition documentation; perform general construction observation and administration activities.
Position Requirements
Strong interest in architecture and commitment to environmental responsibility; LEED accreditation a plus.
Minimum of 2 years experience in all phases of design and construction.
BArch or MArch degree from an accredited architecture program or foreign equivalent.
Strong organizational abilities and ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
Graphic skills and proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office, and sketching.
Experience with building code and zoning analysis a plus.
Rendering and visualization skills a plus.
Legal working status in the U.S.
Salary: $65,000 – $80,000 annually.
Benefits include medical insurance and 401(k).
