Application Engineer
We are seeking a talented and experienced Application Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for PLC based Control System Design and Programming, including existing and future Pilot units by employing long-term engineering solutions to meet operations and customer objectives.
Base pay range $65.00/hr - $69.00/hr
Primary Job Functions
Design, develop, and implement PLC-based control systems for industrial automation projects.
Program, test, and troubleshoot PLC systems.
Coordinate PLC programming with HMI programmers, control system architecture and electrical design.
Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to define control system requirements.
Perform system integration, commissioning, and startup support.
Conduct control system testing, including loop checks, I/O verification, and functional commissioning.
Maintain and update existing control systems to improve performance and reliability.
Document control system architecture, programming logic, and operational procedures.
Provide technical support and training to maintenance and operations personnel.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies.
Recommend hardware for new systems and upgrades based on performance and compatibility.
Identify hazards, defects, or required repairs, ensuring alignment with site standards and safety protocols.
Develop and implement shutdown logic using Cause & Effect matrices.
Job Requirements
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Control System Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of experience in PLC programming and industrial automation.
Proficiency in ladder logic, function block, and structured text programming.
Hands‑on experience with major PLC platforms, including:
Siemens (S7, Simatic 545/555)
GE (Rx3i)
Knowledge of industrial networking protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus/RTU, Profibus, ProfiNet, OPC‑UA, MQTT, RS‑485/422/232).
Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret programming documentation, electrical schematics, and P&IDs.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to travel for onsite support and commissioning.
Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience
Control system design and programming.
Experience in process control systems within chemical, oil & gas, or manufacturing industries.
National Instruments LabView (cRIO, cDAQ, PXI, SCXI series).
Familiarity with safety PLCs and SIL-rated systems.
Experience with scripting or higher‑level programming languages (e.g., Python, VB).
Understanding of instrumentation and control devices (e.g., sensors, actuators, heaters, VFDs).
Certifications such as ISA CAP, TÜV Functional Safety, or equivalent.
Experience designing PLC panels/control enclosures and generating Bills of Materials.
