Systems Administrator, Linux
Job Description Persistent Systems is looking for a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team at our headquarters in NYC. The Linux Systems Administrator will play a critical role in ensuring our Linux servers and systems are configured and running optimally. This individual will solve complex database problems and play a critical role in the overall success of the organization. Position Responsibilities
Design and manage the installation, configuration and maintenance of Linux servers and workstations
Provide technical support for computer network issues
Collaborate with others to resolve information technology issues
Design integrated computer systems
Test computer hardware performance
Test software performance
Document operational activities
Install computer hardware
Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in accordance with best practices.
Perform system monitoring, integrity verification, and availability of hardware, server resources, and key processes
Perform regular security monitoring to identify any intrusions
Create, execute, and maintain data backup plan
Ensure all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media
Create, change, or delete user accounts as required
Responsible for hardware/software asset management and deployment for new and existing employees
Provide help desk support and resolve issues for end-users
Job Qualifications & Experience Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Proficiency with Bash, Python, or a UNIX oriented scripting language (particularly with a focus on automation)
Minimum of 5 years of systems administration experience
Experience working in a Linux environment as a system administrator
Familiarity with basic networking (IP addresses, routing, firewalls)
Familiarity with configuration management tools
Must have a US Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
10 years of systems administration experience
Experience in Ansible
CompTIA Linux+ Certification
Experience working in an Enterprise Linux environment with any distribution
Experience with LUKS encryption and LVM management at scale
SELinux or AppArmor Endpoint Management
Containerization experience with Docker or equivalent a huge plus
Server Endpoint Automation and Deployment with Kubernetes or equivalent
CompTIA Server+ Certification
Red Hat Certified Engineer Certification
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $125,000 – $156,000 a year (based on qualifications). Eligibility for yearly discretionary bonus.
