The University of California, Berkeley is a leading public university in California. The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics employs more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs, including more than 850 student‑athletes who compete annually in the NCAA.

Position Summary The Events Management unit plays a key role in planning and hosting all IA events, including home competitions and special events. The Assistant Athletics Director, Events works closely with Sports Supervisors, Coaches, and critical support units to plan and implement all campus‑hosted events. The role involves coordination with outside vendors to ensure compliance with NCAA policy and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

Plan all intercollegiate competitions and venue rentals.

Coordinate contracting, operational meetings, and collaboration with Athletics, Campus, and community units such as Facilities, Tickets, Marketing, UCPD, and City of Berkeley.

Manage game day event management across security, medical, ticketing, parking, concessions, marketing, facility set up, and visiting team.

Ensure events are implemented safely and successfully.

Resolve game day issues as they arise.

Manage staff dedicated to specific events and provide direction and support.

Oversee hiring, training, and management of student staff for events.

Handle professional development and other assignments as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of management principles and best practices with the ability to lead, mentor, and guide staff.

Solid experience in public relations, event planning, production, and implementation.

Familiarity with the campus vision, mission, and policies.

Ability to produce high‑quality events on budget and time constraints that align with campus objectives.

Project management skills.

Interpersonal and communication skills to build collaborative work environments.

Political acumen and judgment.

Leadership/management skills including evaluation and motivation of staff.

Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.

Salary & Benefits Committed to a range of $100,000.00 - $145,400.00 annually, with a full salary range of $91,500.00 - $168,900.00. This exempt, monthly‑paid position is qualified for the University’s comprehensive benefits package.
