Role Overview The Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting throughout the month‑end close process. This position is responsible for preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, analyzing financial data, and producing internal and external reports. This role is also responsible for preparing, reviewing, and analyzing the financial statement for FEMA on a monthly basis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, a deep understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to collaborate across departments to support financial integrity and business decision‑making.

Accountabilities

Prepare assigned monthly journal entries for the FEMA accounts.

Create the daily excess funds and wire transfers.

Analyze the cash activity and prepare the Line of Credit request to FEMA.

Reconcile the credit card accounts daily.

Prepare preliminary estimates for FEMA.

Prepare assigned bank reconciliations for FEMA accounts.

Complete Financial statement for FEMA and enter in PIVOT reporting.

Prepare assigned monthly spreadsheets and recap for Corporate accounting.

Reconcile the cash suspense.

Create the payable receivable for the due to/from FEMA.

Create weekly expense allowance wire transfers and adhoc wires.

Prepare backup for audit request.

Assist with month end duties.

Process Check register approvals.

Create invoices for 1.5% of earned for Private Flood Companies.

Create Insurance Carrier Payable Reports for Private Flood and Excess Flood.

Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.

Ensure timely and accurate completion of the monthly close process.

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

2–5 years of progressive accounting experience (public accounting or corporate accounting).

Hands‑on experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end close.

Previous experience working in the property and casualty insurance industry preferred.

Proficiency in Excel and common ERP/accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday, or similar).

The Senior Accountant must have excellent communication skills, initiative and the ability to resolve difficult reconciliation issues when needed.

Must be able to deal effectively with all levels of the organization.

Must be able to change priorities when needed.

The Senior accountant should have better than average time management and organizational skills to achieve the financial statement close deadlines.

Hybrid position; must work in the office as needed or scheduled.

Minimum 2 days a week in‑office schedule and work in‑office for month‑end closing on the 1st of every month.
