Advisor and Recruitment Coordinator – Upward Bound
Position Summary
Avila University seeks applicants for a full-time Advisor and Recruitment Coordinator for federally grant‑funded Department of Education TRIO/UB grant. The TRIO Office at Avila University houses two Upward Bound programs. Classic Upward Bound serves 74 students at Ruskin and Grandview High School. Upward Bound Achieve serves 60 students at Northeast and Central High School. This position is for Achieve Upward Bound.
Responsibilities
Recruit 9th and 10th graders to fill open spots in the program each year
Provide recruitment presentations at high schools, feeder middle schools, and applicable community organizations
Schedule and interview new participants
Create new student files
Ensure all new 9th and 10th graders complete the LASSI assessment
Provide workshops to create a firstyear experience and encourages retention in the UB programs
Plan and organize academic workshops based on student needs monthly
Assist in the development of a oneweek residential summer program for 9th graders
Assist with the implementation and planning of Saturday Seminars
Monitor students’ attendance, behavior, grades, test scores, and implement improvement strategies and action plans
Advise 9th and 10th grade participants monthly
Monitor compliance with U.S. Department of Education guidelines and policies; project guideline, policies; and Avila guidelines and policies
Safely transport students using universityowned/rented vehicles to and from events, activities, and trips
Some weekends and evenings are required as well as the potential to travel during student trips and professional development events
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, business, social services or a related field with appropriate experience
Must be motivated, have meticulous attention to detail, have interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
The ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team is necessary.
Excellent writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Access to various college access and tutoring resources.
Experience working with underserved high school students in programming and presenting, advising, tutoring and ACT prep.
Experience working collaboratively with diverse groups including students, administrators, and external service providers.
Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate large passenger vans (up to 15 passengers) in compliance with university and state safety regulations.
