Recreational Sports Program Manager II
University of Houston – Department: Campus Recreation
Salary: $49,400 - $56,200
Manages day‑to‑day operations of a large university program or department, including the supervision of staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.
Core Responsibilities
Plan and develop procedures for administering a large or complex department or program.
Manage fiscal activities, including procurement and budget analysis.
Provide guidance to subordinate staff and evaluate performance.
Prepare abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material.
Create and review reports of expenditures and activities.
Administer grants and grant‑related communications, scholarships, and other operations.
Develop, implement, and maintain appropriate policies and procedures.
Serve as property custodian for the department.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student staff participating in intramural and club sports.
Assist with developing and executing student staff trainings, in‑services, and development initiatives.
Maintain department databases for certification tracking, trainings, emergency drills, and mandatory university trainings.
Provide oversight, guidance, and development to club officers and help clubs with travel logistics.
Plan, organize, and execute intramural sports leagues, tournaments, and events.
Support daily operations of sport clubs and intramural sports, ensuring safety standards.
Maintain departmental records (contracts, equipment purchases) and recommend replacements.
Contribute to semester reports, proposals, handbooks, and manuals; assist with risk‑management procedures.
Coordinate with Campus Recreation facilities staff on maintenance and risk concerns.
Assist with program reservations, scheduling, participant inquiries, and program evaluation.
Assist with budget planning, purchase equipment, monitor expenses, manage financial records, and process payroll.
Partner with campus departments and academic units to develop and implement programs and events that support student engagement and success.
Perform other duties as assigned. Evenings and weekends required.
Qualifications
Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical, or professional discipline. Specifically a 4‑year degree or equivalent specialized training related to the work.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of directly job‑related experience.
Certification/Licensing: None.
