The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, is seeking Security Officers to protect the Museum’s collections and create an inclusive visitor experience where all visitors are welcome and feel that they belong. As one of the world’s renowned art museums, the MFA boasts a collection that spans nearly all cultures and time periods—from ancient Egypt to Contemporary. It is a lively social destination that offers concerts, films, and lectures while serving as an important community and educational resource for schools and families. Typical Duties
Provide superior customer service to visitors, staff, and volunteers throughout the Museum. Perform routine patrols of assigned areas, including galleries, exterior doors, laboratories, secure areas, and other museum facilities. Assist with crowd‑control management during highly attended exhibitions and events. Maintain regular communication with the Command Center, report any security concerns, safety hazards, or unusual incidents, and ensure compliance with security protocols. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication, keen observational abilities, and the capacity to handle high‑stress situations effectively. Show reliability, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and sound judgment in resolving conflicts. Familiarity with security equipment and basic computer skills required, along with strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Requirements
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate with Museum staff and visitors. Flexibility to work outside the regular schedule to support special Museum programming and other security coverage needs. Physical stamina for extended walking and standing, and the ability to navigate multiple floors, stairs, and varying climate conditions. Basic computer user skills and familiarity with security equipment. Multilingual skills and Security experience a plus. Shift Information
Full-Time, 40 Hours per Week. Schedules
1st Shift: Thursday – Monday; 9:00 am to 5:40 pm. 3rd Shift / Overnight: Friday – Tuesday; 12:00 am to 8:40 am. (Same for Tuesday – Saturday). Salary
Starting wage: $21.33 per hour (not including shift differential for 1st shift / weekend shift, 2nd shift, and 3rd shift). Benefits
