Job Details
Annual salary: $45,555.60 based on a normal 40‑hour workweek.
Eligible for retention/longevity pay, shift differential, overtime pay, and compensation and organizational policy deductions.
Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm.
Official domicile: Maryville Treatment Center, Maryville, MO; requires extensive statewide travel to DAI facilities.
State vehicle, lodging, and meal reimbursements provided as part of mobile custody assignments.
Position may require right‑to‑work verification internally by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Responsibilities
Maintain security in buildings, towers, and other posts of an adult correctional facility.
Intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders.
Supervise movement of offenders inside and outside the correctional facility; conduct periodic counts; search offenders and their living quarters for contraband; escort and transport offenders to predetermined locations.
Supervise offenders in housing units, during work activities, recreational/religious activities, and supervise visits.
Conduct inspections for health and safety hazards; prepare and submit reports on offender violations, unusual behaviors, and mechanical deficiencies.
Discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders; refer serious problems to proper correctional facility staff.
Promote rehabilitation by encouraging positive social attitudes and discouraging undesirable behaviors.
Perform other related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Special Requirements
Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Ability to complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid/CPR training during Basic Training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
By Assignment, a Position May Require
Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.
Incentives and Stipends
$2.00 per hour shift differential for shifts beginning between 12:00 pm and 5:00 am at a 24/7 congregate care facility.
$0.75 per hour maximum security stipend for full‑time work at a qualifying facility.
$1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend for assignments in a restriction housing/segregation unit.
The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
