We are seeking a dedicated and reliable
Preschool Custodian/Maintenance Specialist
to maintain a safe, clean, and functional environment for our children and staff across our Queens locations. The ideal candidate will have outstanding work ethic, exceptional attendance and punctuality, and a proactive approach to facility management. This position involves working primarily at one site but requires flexibility to occasionally perform maintenance duties at other sites within the Queens area.
Key Responsibilities
Custodial & Cleaning Duties
Perform comprehensive daily cleaning and sanitizing of all areas, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common spaces, adhering strictly to health and safety standards.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and buff floors.
Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste properly.
Clean, dust, and polish furniture, fixtures, and woodwork.
Clean interior and exterior windows and glass surfaces.
Stock and maintain adequate supplies in restrooms and cleaning closets.
Maintenance & Repairs
Perform general, non-specialized maintenance and minor repairs to the facility, including plumbing, electrical fixtures (e.g., changing light bulbs), and carpentry tasks.
Execute interior and exterior painting projects as needed.
Maintain the outside perimeter and grounds, ensuring walkways are clear and safe.
Handle, store, and organize all deliveries of school and maintenance supplies.
Assemble and repair furniture, shelving, and playground equipment.
Operational & Administrative Tasks
Utilize basic computer skills to
log inventory
of supplies, document completed tasks, and track maintenance needs.
Manage the proper storage and organization of all cleaning equipment, tools, and supplies.
Lift and store heavy items
(e.g., bulk supplies, furniture, equipment) as required.
Ensure all facilities are secure at the start and end of the shift.
Maintain a safe environment for children and staff by quickly addressing spills, hazards, and necessary repairs.
Qualifications and Requirements
Mandatory
Education:
Must possess a
High School Diploma
or equivalent.
Training:
Must have current
Mandated Reporter Training
certification.
Skills:
Proficiency in
reading and writing
to understand safety guidelines, complete logs, and follow work orders.
Demonstrated
computer skills
for inventory management and communication.
Proven ability to perform all necessary custodial and maintenance tasks.
Physical:
Must be able to
lift and store heavy items
safely.
Flexibility:
Must be willing and able to work
on occasion at more than one site
in the Queens area.
Work Ethic:
Requires
exemplar attendance and punctuality .
Additional Requirements
Medical Documentation:
Must provide an
updated medical yearly
clearance as required by childcare regulations.
Training Commitment:
Must complete
30 hours of training yearly , which includes topics relevant to both facility maintenance and
early childhood training
to understand the specific needs of the preschool environment.
Child Interaction:
Must be comfortable and capable of
working safely around children
and following protocols to minimize disruption to educational activities.
