JOB SUMMARY:

In this role, you will help sustain Mennel's tradition of excellence established in 1886 as well as support our food safety programs and mission to reliably deliver superior quality, uniformity, and service. The purpose of this position is to meet and exceed expectations of our internal and external customers; to conduct qualitative/quantitative tests on raw materials, in process, and finished products to ensure compliance with internal/external specifications and all food safety programs; to provide prompt and effective communication, service, and timely delivery of reliable information and accurate laboratory data to our internal and external customers.

PRIMARY WORK SHIFT:

Works shift as assigned and overtime as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations in respect to GMP's, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act as stated in the FS&Q Statement, and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the company as listed in Corporate Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) and attend all required training sessions. Maintain the department/facility in an everyday audit ready condition. Provide good quality products and superior service to internal and external customers. Be proficient in all testing methods and data entry performed in the QA department. Conduct accurate analysis of routine and non-routine samples for internal and external customers in support of all food safety programs, quality control, and meeting customer expectations, timelines, and specifications. Communicate important quality, safety, and security concerns to QA Manager, Technicians, and other personnel in a timely manner. Responsible for managing mill samples, performing "long-method" testing including moisture, protein, and ash analyses, and capturing and/or reporting results. Assist with monitoring, managing, and executing NIR bias adjustments as determined by review of long method test results. Assist with conducting X-mill testing as needed. Perform accurate analysis of non-routine samples from the internal and external mills, transfer, P & L department, R & D department, customers on NIR, pH, moisture, protein, ash, FN, RVA, SRC, SD, granulation (Alpine and Ro-tap), viscosity, additive verification. Perform AACC Cinn. Flour, SW1 and HW2 check samples. Prepare samples for long screen pesticide residue, soy and heavy metal testing, enrichment assays, and shelf-life study. Work closely with R & D department on research projects as assigned. Maintain inventories on QA laboratory instruments, consumable parts, chemicals, and testing solutions. Maintain a clean and orderly work area in addition to assigned sanitation duties, monitor all QA Technicians' sanitation performance on the job. Demonstrate excellent organizational abilities in setting priorities, organizing workload, handling multiple responsibilities, and meeting deadlines. Assist QA Manager and Assistant QA Manager in monitoring and training QA Technicians, maintaining QA laboratory instruments and equipment in good working condition. Fill in for QA Manager and Assistant QA Manager in his/her absence with ordering supplies and creating/maintaining spec cards for customers as well as the AS400 Maintain Confidentiality of customer files and other documents. Other duties may be assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with the direct supervision of summer help and new staff training when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of a two or four-year college degree in baking science, cereal science, milling science, food science, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, analytical instrument, microbiology, or related field or discipline; is required. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in baking is preferred. An ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office. Good planning and organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, procedures, and plans. Ability to write, complete checklists and other basic documentation and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisors, and managers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must use solid judgment when making decisions. Must have ability to quickly recognize hazards and improvement areas. Good communication and problem-solving skills; analytical and logical thinking skills.

REASONING ABILITY:

Must use solid judgment when making decisions. Must have ability to quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.

The noise level in the work environment usually requires the use of hearing protection. Work involves exposure to common wheat allergens.
