Job Description:
As a Database Administrator, you will support both Sybase and SQL Server environments, contributing to ongoing operations and a long-term migration project. This role involves troubleshooting, managing database tasks, and assisting with after-hours implementations. You will work in a formal change control environment and collaborate with senior DBAs to ensure system reliability and performance. The position offers potential for long-term employment and plays a key role in transitioning from Sybase to SQL Server.
Key Responsibilities:
Support Sybase ASE 15.7 on Solaris in an X86 hardware environment Assist with weekly data fixes and after-hours implementations Develop and manage CRON jobs and command-line tasks in Unix Contribute to the migration project from Sybase to SQL Server Support SQL Server environments across Windows Server and Azure platforms Participate in cluster management and disaster recovery planning Troubleshoot database issues and optimize performance Collaborate with senior DBAs to reduce workload and improve efficiency Maintain formal change control procedures and documentation Provide on-call support during scheduled rotation periods
Required Skills, Experiences, Education, and Competencies:
4-5 years of experience with Sybase and SQL Server Strong troubleshooting skills Experience with Unix/Solaris/Linux environments Bachelor's degree in a related field 10+ years of overall experience as a Database Administrator
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with EFL tools for migration Familiarity with Sybase to SQL Server migration strategies Willingness to transition to a full-time role (optional)
The hourly range for roles of this nature are $50.00 to $75.00/hr. Rates are heavily dependent on skills, experience, location, and industry.
