The Phlebotomist, under the direction of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), is responsible for specimen procurement and dispatch. Phlebotomists are required to perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages from newborn to geriatric. The Phlebotomist may be assigned other relevant duties in support of the Laboratory or Patient Access Services.
**Completed phlebotomy certification training
+ New graduate OK
+ Training sufficient to maintain registration, On-the-job training as needed
+ Good personal communication skills
+ Ability to maneuver quickly and efficiently at the patient's bedside and within hospital confines
+ Working knowledge of multiple computer systems and software
+ Familiarity with or ability to learn medical terminology
+ Ability to remain calm and function efficiently during difficult or emergency situations
+ Ability to communicate Phlebotomy responsibilities as outlined in the Phlebotomy Procedure manual to trainees
+ ASCP Phlebotomy Technician, ASCP Medical Laboratory Technician, or comparable certificate
**One year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory
