Description A leading company in the wine and spirits distribution industry is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee accounting operations and ensure financial accuracy in accordance with established principles and deadlines. This position will begin as a contract-to-hire opportunity, offering the potential for permanent employment based on performance. The Accounting Manager will manage a small accounting team, oversee general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll functions, and provide financial analysis to support organizational goals. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, attention to detail, and experience managing complex accounting processes in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee daily accounting functions, including General Ledger Accounting, Payroll, and Accounts Payable.
- Supervise and develop accounting personnel, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to company policies and GAAP standards.
- Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and journal entries to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Coordinate month-end and year-end close processes and maintain internal controls over financial reporting.
- Manage payroll operations and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Oversee vendor payments, expense reimbursements, and the maintenance of documentation for monthly reporting.
- Prepare and file property tax returns and renewal license applications for multiple branch locations.
- Conduct special analyses and prepare reports to support business decisions and leadership initiatives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and finance teams to improve efficiency and accuracy across accounting processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory or management capacity.
- Proven expertise in general ledger accounting, payroll, and accounts payable management.
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control principles.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor team members and collaborate with cross-functional departments.
