This position is responsible for managing payroll, supervising staff accountants and clerical staff, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including banking services and general ledger functions. The role involves coordinating with the Accounts Payable Manager to ensure efficient processes and resource allocation. The Accounting Manager will schedule and direct work assignments for clerical employees and staff accountants, manage the completion of month-end close and financial statement preparation, maintain the chart of accounts, and assign entries to proper accounts. Additionally, the role requires developing and implementing recordkeeping and accounting systems using current technology, providing advice on compensation, employee health care benefits, and accounting or data processing systems, and analyzing budgets and business operations to project future financial outcomes. Responsibilities
- Manage payroll and supervise staff accountants and clerical staff.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the accounting department, banking services, and general ledger functions.
- Coordinate with the Accounts Payable Manager to ensure efficient processes and resource allocation.
- Schedule and direct work assignments for clerical employees and staff accountants.
- Coordinate the completion of month-end close and preparation of financial statements.
- Maintain chart of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts.
- Develop, implement, and modify accounting systems using current technology.
- Advise on compensation, employee health care benefits, and accounting or data processing systems.
- Develop and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports comparing budgeted costs to actual costs.
- Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, and financial commitments.
- Review departmental policies and procedures annually and update as needed.
- Prepare annual 1099's and assist with annual insurance renewals.
- Coordinate filing of annual sales and use tax return and unclaimed property procedures.
- Assist with Form 990 filing and preparation of the annual organization audit and reports.
- Develop and direct the implementation of goals, objectives, and work standards for direct reports.
- Ensure departmental compliance with applicable laws and ordinances.
- Oversee disbursement department activities and ensure accurate processing of accounts payable and payroll.
- Detect and recommend revisions for weaknesses in internal control of accounting procedures.
- Review ledger entries and reconciliations for direct staff accounts.
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and coordinate the annual budget process.
- Conduct routine cash audits and provide oversight for year-end inventory count.
- Hire, train, supervise, and retain competent accounting staff.
- Provide training and professional development for staff.
- Communicate accounting procedures and policies verbally and in writing.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration.
- Five years' experience in Finance or Accounting.
- Three to five years' experience in GAAP accounting.
- Three years of managerial experience.
- Ability to manage and lead a team of 5.
- Proficient with Excel.
- Expert in payroll and payroll law.
- Knowledge of general ledger, reconciliation, reporting, journal entry, financial reporting, and GAAP.
- Understanding of principles, practices, and procedures of management and administration.
- Analytical and report preparation techniques related to accounting practices.
- Familiarity with applicable laws, codes, and regulations.
