Description A fast-growing manufacturing company is seeking a Senior Accountant with strong expertise in sales tax and personal property tax across multiple states. This role will be the go-to for indirect tax compliance and reporting in 35+ states and will also support payroll (training provided), month-end close, and financial reporting. - Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements (sales & use, property, income, payroll, gross receipts, etc.).
- Prepare and file sales tax returns and drive full automation in Avalara Avatax.
- Monitor tax law changes, research inquiries/audits, and liaise with tax authorities.
- Partner with external tax advisors on provisions, accounting method reviews, and financial reporting.
- Provide tax insights to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
- Identify tax savings opportunities and communicate implications to leadership.
- Support international tax matters, including transfer pricing, subsidiary guidance, and intercompany coordination.
- Oversee payroll processing, accruals, and related internal controls (training provided; third-party processor in place).
- Calculate commissions and ensure accurate journal entries and accruals.
- Perform month-end close: journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations (cash, payroll, intercompany, debt, etc.).
- Ensure general ledger accuracy and timely closing activities.
- Review financial data for completeness and compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Assist with audit requests and prepare supporting schedules.
- Maintain internal controls and identify process improvements.
- Support SOX compliance (if applicable) through documentation and control testing.
- Research and apply technical accounting guidance as needed.
- Assist in implementing new accounting standards and policy updates.
- Participate in special projects, including system integrations, process enhancements, and account cleanups.
- Work closely with FP& A, AP, AR, and other departments to ensure data integrity.
- Provide financial insights, trend analysis, and decision support.
- Support business initiatives and other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or CPA track preferred.
- Big 4 or national public accounting/audit experience is highly valued.
- 3-5 years of corporate accounting experience, ideally in a global or manufacturing/gaming environment.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAGE, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite); Avalara Avatax and Datarails a plus.
- Advanced Excel proficiency.
- Solid understanding of US GAAP.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organization and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills; capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
- Effective communicator with the ability to interface across departments and leadership levels.
