Description The Accounting Supervisor oversees, guides, and motivates the accounting team to ensure the accurate and timely completion of financial information related to property, plant, and equipment; construction work in progress; inventory; and transportation allocations. This role ensures that all accounting activities and reporting comply with GAAP and company policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, principles, and company policies related to property and inventory accounting.
- Maintain accuracy and integrity of project, asset, and inventory subledgers.
- Manage month-end close, year-end close, and other reporting deadlines related to plant accounting.
- Develop and compile budgetary information related to depreciation and property taxes.
- Partner with business units to evaluate proposed projects, determine capitalization requirements, assess open project status, and identify assets to place in service or retire.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and Operations teams to research and resolve inventory issues and lead the annual physical inventory process.
- Coordinate with Treasury and other departments to ensure timely and accurate project information.
- Oversee related financial systems, ensuring data integrity, user security, and proper implementation of upgrades.
- Provide leadership, training, and professional development for accounting staff.
- Conduct coaching sessions, performance evaluations, and participate in hiring and disciplinary processes.
- Promote cross-training and continuous improvement initiatives within the group.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Assist the Controller in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to plant and fixed asset accounting.
- Supervise the preparation of annual property tax and quarterly transportation tax filings.
- Coordinate and support external audit activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Proven leadership ability to manage, develop, and motivate accounting teams.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB, and general accounting principles.
- Extensive experience in fixed asset accounting and capital project accounting.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, internal controls, and financial systems.
- Working knowledge of property and vehicle tax regulations.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
