Accounting Manager/Supervisor Job at Robert Half in Des Moines

Description We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager/Supervisor to join our team in Des Moines, Iowa. In this role, you will lead key financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations while driving efficiency and accuracy across operations. This position offers an opportunity to collaborate with internal departments and external auditors to deliver high-quality financial insights and solutions. Responsibilities:

• Oversee and approve journal entries during the financial close process, ensuring accurate ledger reconciliations and insightful analysis of business trends.
• Manage quarterly reinsurance settlements, ensuring compliance and timely reporting.
• Perform and review monthly balance sheet and transaction reconciliations to maintain financial integrity.
• Supervise the preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory filings for life and health insurance companies, coordinating with various departments to meet deadlines.
• Prepare and review financial statements and reports required by auditors and regulatory agencies, providing detailed financial analysis and project support.
• Assist with external audits and examinations by compiling work papers, analyzing data, and preparing reports.
• Research and respond to ad-hoc requests, including life and annuity business analysis, rating agency data, and inquiries from state insurance departments.
• Evaluate internal controls, recommending improvements to workflows and procedures to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of financial reporting experience, with a focus on statutory reporting.
• Proficiency in accounting software systems and tools.
• Strong expertise in statutory financial reporting and compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to manage journal entries and account reconciliations effectively.
• Knowledge of reinsurance processes and settlements.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
