The Internship Coordinator at Mesa Community College is vital in facilitating experiential learning opportunities that bridge academic studies and professional practice. This position involves collaboration with students, faculty, and external partners to develop and manage internship programs that enhance student career readiness and align with their educational objectives. The Career Services Internship Coordinator is responsible for implementing a comprehensive experiential learning plan to support student, industry, and campus engagement in immersive experiences and experiential learning opportunities. The role involves overseeing and managing current and growing experiential learning programs and initiatives. The position supports the supervisor in the overall management of Career Services, ensuring that students and alumni are given opportunities to explore and select career options and acquire work-related experience. - Develop and implement a comprehensive experiential learning plan to support student, industry, and campus engagement in immersive experiences and experiential learning opportunities.
- This position stays current with recent trends, resources, and compliance issues addressing student career issues, experiential education, and incorporates information into the career center. This position monitors the college's experiential learning policy and enforces policy expectations to campus partners. Collaborate with functional areas of the career center and areas of the college to provide coordinated standards of services.
- Develop, coordinate, and oversee credit and non-credit internship opportunities aligned with certificate and associate degree programs.
- Ensure internships meet learning outcomes and college standards.
- Monitor student progress during internships, providing support and addressing any concerns that arise.
- Regularly checks in on internship, fellowship, and experiential learning placements to ensure positive student and organizational experience, resolving concerns or disputes in collaboration with the administration.
- Create programs aimed at providing work-based learning opportunities for students, professional competency development, and reflection on learning.
- Create pathways for experiential education collaborations and standards within curricular and co-curricular experiences.
- Assist the Career Services Coordinator with the co-op process and related activities, including the development of employer relations, job and co-op advertisement, the management of an online network, and on and off-campus recruiting events.
- Build and maintain partnerships with local employers, workforce boards, and community organizations.
- Coordinate with employers to develop and promote work-based learning experiences, such as apprenticeships and on-the-job training programs.
- Promote student talent and develop new internship pipelines that reflect labor market needs.
- Develop and maintain relationships and resources with employers, alumni, and industry partners who provide experiential learning and post-graduation opportunities for students.
- Work with appropriate stakeholders to cultivate relationships and build resources for employers, alumni, and industry partners who provide experiential learning and post-graduation opportunities for students.
- Assist on-campus employers with understanding on-campus student employment policies and assist with training on how to use the Applicant Tracking System (ATS)/People Admin.
- Explore and integrate other work-based and experiential learning opportunities for students, including but not limited to, apprenticeship degrees, competency-based education, learn and earn programming, virtual internships, and micro-internships.
- Plan and execute career-related events, including internship fairs, panels, and employer presentations.
- Develop materials and presentations to promote experiential learning.
- Support Career Services programming through classroom presentations, student career development workshops, and collaborative programming across campus departments.
- Organize workshops, seminars, and events to educate students about the benefits of internships and prepare them for successful experiences.
- Represent Career Services on campus and in speaking to visiting employers, alumni, prospective students, and parents during recruiting visits, information sessions, alumni events, admissions programs, and orientation functions.
- Implement and manage career development programs and workshops to enhance student employability and raise awareness among students about different employment or internship opportunities.
- Plan, coordinate, and support employer events including signature events, industry days, and career fairs.
- Work with faculty to integrate internships into curricula and identify appropriate placement sites.
- Support faculty in supervising and assessing student internships.
- Assist in planning and delivering internship and career events (e.g., career fairs, employer panels).
- Represent Career Services in campus orientations, advisory boards, and community events.
- Conduct various consultations and meetings to discover new experiential learning opportunities and advance campus engagement.
- Deliver outreach presentations to classes, campus units, and organizations to advance experiential learning and career development outcomes.
- Plan, promote, and implement career programming and services to students, alumni, faculty, and employers (e.g., workshops, class presentations, career fairs, grad fairs, advisor training, employer visits, and other special events, etc.).
- Develop and manage career services communications, online & social media presence, & web page.
- Coordinate and enhance service learning and engagement opportunities for students, by collaborating with the Civic Learning Coordinator, other faculty, and school deans.
- Develop tailored communication plans and other written materials customized for students, including maintaining specific sections on the Career Services website, developing content for social media, and contributing to unit publications.
- Design digital engagement efforts by leveraging social media and other platforms to promote experiential learning programs, increase student participation, and strengthen employer connections.
- Partner with the administration to strategize on key accounts leading to the renewal and growth industry consulting projects and internship opportunities.
- Develop marketing materials and strategies to promote internship opportunities to students and potential employer partners.
- Leverage partnerships with campus and the community to ensure that students have access to a variety of reputable experiential learning opportunities to support learning.
- Engage campus partners (i.e., alumni, staff, faculty, employers, community members) to collaborate and move forward on the Career Center's and college's existing strategy for experiential learning.
- Coordinate posting of on-campus, off-campus, and seasonal positions; assist students seeking part-time positions.
- Develop collateral and web content to highlight experiential education data for internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop strategies to enhance students' soft skills or work-readiness skills.
- Provide personalized guidance to students, assisting them in identifying suitable internship opportunities based on their academic interests and career goals.
- Provide one-on-one counseling and guidance for students seeking internships and job search.
- Provide coaching, training, consultations, and educational resources for students, alumni, faculty, staff and employers.
- Provide career counseling including administration of Strong Interest Inventory assessment and interpretation.
- Assist students in the application process, including resume development, interview preparation, and professional etiquette.
- Routinely participate in and support drop-in hours for resume/cover letter review.
- Utilize the college's career interest assessment tool (Career Coach) early in the student journey to help students identify their career interests, thereby enhancing their commitment to and engagement with their chosen programs of study.
- Conduct career counseling services, including resume writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
- Develop and implement programs to aid students in preparation for job applications, interviews, and employment, including resumes, cover letters, writing samples, mock interviews, and references.
- Utilize assessment results to make data-driven improvements to career services offerings.
- Utilize career-related technologies and resources, and manage online career management systems.
- Collect and analyze data on workshop attendance, student feedback, and employment outcomes to assess program effectiveness.
- Provide accurate reports and data related to experiential learning and stakeholder engagement.
- Assess the progress and quality of internships by collecting feedback from students, employers, and faculty to enhance program effectiveness.
- Guide and ensure students and employers on required placement, forms, and compliance.
- Assess, track, and analyze data and metrics relative to experiential learning, planning, and engagement activities - including managing college-wide experiential learning reporting structure and policy.
- Manage a dashboard of on and off campus experiences for student engagement and college promotions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legal and ethical standards, including labor laws and institutional policies.
- Administer policies, procedures and forms with departments, academic deans, employers, Bursar, Registrar, etc. and other departmental internships as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of internship placements, agreements, and evaluations.
- Gather, analyze, and share data and insights related to employer engagement, experiential learning, events, student participation, hiring rates, and overall program effectiveness.
- Manage the tracking, documentation, and secure storage of student and employer agreements, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and legal requirements.
- Monitor the MCCCD/MCC experiential learning policy and enforce policy expectations to campus and employer partners. Collaborate with functional areas of the career center and areas of the college to provide coordinated standards of services.
- Implement the operations of experiential education efforts to ensure best practices are being met by college entities to validate, verify, and share experiential learning opportunities for students.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records, files, and correspondence as required by the Federal Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Design, implement, and oversee internship programs, including recruitment, placement, orientation, supervision, and evaluation.
- Develop policies and procedures to ensure the quality and consistency of internship experiences.
- Coordinate internship affiliation agreements with local, regional and national employers, working with the Business Office and in communication with director of career services
- Develop and coordinate additional paid internships and federal work study per federal incremental funding, which includes advertising each semester, and advising on campus student hiring managers on internship development, advertising and selection, and managing a limited budget each semester.
- Monitor and serve as point of contact for career services internship sites; coordinate evaluation/intern appraisal process and grading
- Build internship program support through outreach to faculty, departments and students.
- Lead the operational excellence of internship and industry consulting project programming, including managing logistics, facilitating student participation and placements, assessing program impact, and implementing changes that enhance program quality.
- Train & support peer mentors and student employees to provide peer support for career services.
- Leverage partnerships with campus and the community to ensure that students have access to a variety of reputable experiential learning opportunities to support learning. Engages campus partners (i.e., alumni, staff, faculty, employers, community members) to collaborate and move forward on the Career Services and college's existing strategy for experiential learning. - Cultivate and maintain relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community partners to establish a network of internship opportunities.
- Collaborate with academic departments to ensure internships align with MCC's academic objectives and meet complement curricular goals and learning outcomes
- Support for special projects and strategic initiatives related to experiential learning and student success.
- Serve on various executive boards, college and district committees (including locally, regionally, and nationally) as designated and participate in meetings and conferences.
- Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned commensurate to the grade level of the position.
