- Education: High school graduate or equivalent education
- Experience: none
- Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
- Preferred: Previous PCA, nurse's aide or orderly experience in a healthcare setting
- Transports patients from unit to OR taking care to check the pre-op checklist is complete before transport.
- Assists OR team in the set up of equipment to include transporting machines, tanks and related peripheral supplies.
- Cleans and cares for equipment when not in use, ensures equipment remains plugged-in and covered. Ensures all equipment is functioning properly and reports machine/equipment malfunctions to the unit manager.
- Assists in the pre-operative and intra-operative positioning of patients.
- Provides support services to staff to include running errands as directed by the RN Circulator or Anesthesiologist (i.e. between lab, supply room, blood bank, etc.) to assist with smooth operation and coordination of care for surgical services patients.
- Performs room turnover and assists with other housekeeping functions as directed.
- May have access to non-controlled medication storage areas to include the anesthesia boxes and carts that are used in the surgical treatment of patients.
- Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System. Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its associated facilities achieve its goals.
- Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.
