Cybersecurity Analyst – Part Time We are looking for a part‑time Cybersecurity Analyst to support the Information Management Services team. About the Position As a Cybersecurity Analyst, you will be the go‑to person for any cybersecurity‑related questions, incidents, or system issues. You will dive into tasks such as analyzing processes, hunting potential threats, and carefully documenting findings. Beyond spotting vulnerabilities you will help assess risks and recommend effective solutions to keep systems secure. You will also play an essential part in our team’s response to any security incidents. Your work will protect Salt Lake City’s business systems, employee information, and the data of residents throughout the network. Key Responsibilities Monitor, detect, and report intrusions or anomalies across security and network systems, including SIEM platforms, web and email filtering tools, and SNMP‑based network monitoring solutions. Audit identity and access management (IAM) processes, including employee onboarding, offboarding, and contractor access reviews. Oversee and optimize network performance and security; conduct regular testing and provide performance metrics and reports. Manage and adjust email, web, and DNS filtering policies to align with evolving security needs. Support cybersecurity initiatives by reviewing policies and procedures, and coordinating internal and external network penetration testing. Administer and fine‑tune SIEM/SOC tools by managing security rules, assigning risk levels to alerts, and developing new detection rules based on the MITRE ATT&CK framework. Manage approved application lists including monitoring CVE reports and security updates to ensure endpoints are properly secured. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, and currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field. Foundational understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing and subnetting. Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles such as intrusion prevention, incident response, and recovery. Familiarity with SIEM tools, email security, and cloud security. Working knowledge of modern operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. Basic hardware troubleshooting skills. Familiarity with modern work order or incident tracking systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of technical expertise. Strong customer service orientation. Self‑starter with the ability to work independently. Demonstrated ability to manage tasks, projects, or incidents from start to completion, including follow‑up. Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a technical support role or within a Security Operations Center (SOC) environment. Exposure to penetration testing methodologies and tools. Familiarity with the MITRE ATT&CK framework. Understanding of CVE tracking and vulnerability management. Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, Cisco CCNA, or equivalent. Working Conditions Moderate physical effort. Comfortable working conditions, handling moderate weights, intermittent sitting, standing and walking. Intermittent exposure to moderate noise levels. Exposure to stressful situations. Position Salary Range $20.00/hr. – $25.00/hr.
