Job Summary
General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first‑of‑a‑kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA‑EMS’s expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions supports critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.
Under general supervision, this position supports the manufacturing production process with focus on the design, development, and implementation of new or revised production processes for efficient and economical fabrication of parts, components, sub‑assemblies, and final assemblies. This position supports the machine shop specifically.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide Manufacturing Engineering support to GA‑EMS programs/projects such as missile defense systems, lasers, advanced sensors, and advanced technology development.
- Support planning, scheduling, and execution of manufacturing activities required for machining and integration of components into complex systems.
- Receive and route Non‑Conformance Reports for disposition.
- Create and maintain manufacturing bills of material, manufacturing work instructions, and routers.
- Provide input to material masters to flow down requirements and track material procurements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain methods, operation sequences, and processes in the manufacture of parts, components, sub‑assemblies, and final assemblies.
- Conduct tests throughout production to determine control over applicable variables and troubleshoot manufacturing problems of moderate scope and complexity related to CNC machining.
- Design production operations sequence, specifying procedures for fabrication of applicable tools and equipment, and adapting machinery.
- Collaborate with product design engineering on technical specifications that best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
- Estimate manufacturing costs and determine time standards.
- Ensure production processes and procedures comply with regulations.
- Maintain records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.
- Develop documentation of findings and implemented solutions and communicate results to staff.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field plus at least two years of manufacturing engineering experience (equivalent experience may substitute for education).
- Detailed understanding of CNC machining and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of work holding and material movement while machining complex aerospace structures.
- Proficient in GD&T.
- General understanding of manufacturing engineering concepts, principles, and theory with application experience ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with modeling and drafting using SolidWorks is desired.
- Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel and Project; MS Teams experience is desirable.
- Experience with SAP and Windchill applications is desirable.
- Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in an evolving environment while organizing work assignments to meet established timetables.
- Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Customer focused; able to work on a self‑initiated basis or in a team environment, and willing to work extended hours and travel as required.
