About the Company The Buyer and Material Control Specialist is responsible for managing supplier relationships and procurement activities to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of materials from domestic and international sources. This role oversees purchase orders, vendor‑managed inventory, and inventory levels while leveraging MRP and ERP systems to optimize sourcing, scheduling, and production flow. The Specialist maintains accurate bill of materials and methods of manufacturing in the ERP, supports custom product and rework requests, and provides cross‑functional updates to operations, sales, and customer care teams. The Specialist also assists with return requests, quality compliance, and process improvements while upholding high standards of communication and change management.
About the Role The Procurement and Materials Specialist is responsible for managing supplier relationships and procurement activities to ensure timely, cost‑effective delivery of materials from domestic and international sources.
Responsibilities
Plan and execute procurement of materials from domestic and international suppliers.
Maintain purchase order status and proactively monitor open orders to ensure on‑time delivery.
Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to confirm production / shipping schedules and resolve delivery issues.
Analyze and utilize MRP, source lists, and material master data to optimize sourcing and planning.
Manage and oversee vendor managed inventory (VMI) programs to maintain appropriate stock levels and reduce shortages.
Monitor inventory levels, safety stock, and reorder points to support uninterrupted production.
Provide estimated shipping dates on new orders and re‑date late orders daily.
Utilize ERP system to configure bills of material and method of manufacturing for product orders, product updates, and rework.
Support operations and engineering teams by maintaining bill of material structure and accuracy in reference core documents.
Prepare bill of materials for custom requests, return inquiries, and custom paint requests.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's degree or equivalent
Experience : 2+ years in supply chain, logistics, sourcing; some experience with ERP / WMS systems
Required Skills
Basic knowledge of forecasting, MRP, transportation, supply chain, inventory management and warehousing disciplines
Proficient with MS Office suite – advanced skills with MS Excel
Strong sense of urgency & attention to detail
Excellent organization, communication and follow‑up skills
Ability to self‑direct and take some action in ambiguous situations
Extremely high standards of ethical excellence
Analytical with a methodical approach to problem solving
Experience establishing and employing demand‑pull material planning
