Duties/Responsibilities
Perform welding inspections in accordance with AWS QC1, AWS D1.1, MIL-STD-3040A, and project-specific requirements.
Review and interpret welding procedures (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder performance qualifications (WPQ).
Conduct visual inspections, dimensional checks, and NDT coordination (VT, MT, PT, RT, UT as applicable).
Verify material traceability, weld joint preparation, and compliance with armor plate specifications (e.g., MIL-DTL-46100 / MIL-DTL-46186).
Ensure all inspection results are documented, traceable, and conform to ISO 9001:2015 / customer requirements.
Work closely with welders, welding engineers, and production teams to drive continuous improvement and defect prevention.
Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for nonconforming welds or materials.
Participate in audits, customer inspections, and quality reviews.
Provide training and mentorship to shop-floor personnel on weld quality and compliance requirements.
Provide leadership and training to quality teams, ensuring knowledge transfer of best practices, regulatory compliance, and defense industry requirements.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience inspecting welded assemblies to military or defense fabrication standards.
Strong knowledge of welding symbols, joint design, GD&T, and blueprint interpretation.
Familiarity with MIL-STD-3040A or other DoD welding/fabrication standards.
Experience with NDT processes and working knowledge of applicable codes (AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.5, D1.6, etc.).
Excellent documentation and communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality reporting systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
Prior role as a Welding Engineer or equivalent technical function.
Experience with programming robotic welders.
Job Requirements
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment around heavy equipment and welding operations.
May require lifting up to 50 lbs., standing/walking for extended periods, and use of PPE.
Occasional travel to suppliers, customer sites, or test labs.
