Job Summary As Professional Land Surveyor for the survey & mapping division for CERM, you will oversee the group of employees that produces surveying and mapping drawings and data for a wide-ranging scope of projects and clients. These range from municipal, public‑works improvement and transportation‑related projects to private, commercial developments. You will direct project activities to ensure accurate and timely project delivery and client satisfaction; optimize return on investment of company financial and human resources; provide business development; and provide administrative leadership and guidance.

Essential Duties

Lead and oversee all aspects of land surveying projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards and regulations

Respond to client and job site inquiries in a timely and professional manner

Perform technical aspects of surveying, including measuring distances, directions, and angles; researching land records; determining boundary lines; recording results; preparing plots, maps, and reports; and writing descriptions of land and other legal documents

Develop a data compilation system for the survey & mapping division

Conduct construction staking and topographic surveys

Create as‑built drawings from survey data, ensuring conformance to project specifications and tolerances, while maintaining survey records, GPS, and CAD files

Conduct field surveys and measurements using modern surveying equipment such as total stations and GPS

Prepare maps, diagrams, and reports detailing survey results and ensuring their accuracy

Provide monthly quantities via drone and survey data

Resolve discrepancies in survey results

Collaborate with civil engineers, architects, construction personnel, and planners to provide surveying information for construction and development projects

Be well‑versed in Civil 3D and surfacing modeling

Read and interpret engineering plans and construction documents

Ensure compliance with regulations and codes

Stay up to date with new surveying technology and industry developments

Perform work both in the field and in an office environment

Develop project deliverables and operational information, and present them to clients in a timely manner

Accurately and timely complete all project management functions, including:

Accounting/budgeting – project setup for accounting and administrative compliance; monitoring project budget; managing personnel hours; assisting with invoice collection calls

Business Development – maintain positive client relations, marketing, serve as proposal leader for the survey & mapping division, actively seek to expand scope of work with the client, and attend meetings

Leadership/Staff Management – account for all project resources; schedule staff; coach staff to meet client expectations; guide professional development

Project Execution – lead project planning activities; communicate with stakeholders; manage workload and report projections

Quality Assurance/Risk Management – execute contractual documents; communicate assurance plans; report risk exposures and occurrences to senior management; formulate QA/QC processes to minimize risk; ensure proper file setup

Costing & Estimating – develop cost estimates that include understanding the scope of work and resources needed to bid

Other duties as assigned

Required Skills

Knowledge of applicable State and local laws and rules; ability to obtain and understand client and/or project‑specific requirements, procedures, and standards, and integrate them into the work process and final deliverables

Experience with transportation projects, including right‑of‑way, parcel, and easement resolutions and topographic database preparations; infrastructure inventory and assessment projects involving field collection and GIS asset data input; typical civil/site projects such as boundary, ALTA, and topographic surveys, and construction staking

Familiarity with or working knowledge of OpenRoads, MicroStation, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and other typical office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Experience working with state DOTs (ALDOT, FDOT, & GDOT) is preferred

Required Experience

Registered Land Surveyor in GA, with the ability to become registered in AL & FL

10 years of experience in surveying; at least five years as a Registered Land Surveyor
