Job Title:
Electrical Engineer - Protection and Control
Overview Join our growing Substation Engineering team to provide development and design services on 7.2kV-345kV protection and control projects for utility applications. This role involves managing multiple projects, collaborating with utility clients, and contributing to complex utility distribution and substation design projects.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the preparation of engineering deliverables such as electrical one-line diagrams, protection system architecture, physical layouts, and control building designs.
Specify and select equipment and materials, prepare cost estimates and bills of materials.
Design control buildings, including panels, batteries, and chargers.
Develop bid and construction contract documents.
Upgrade and expand Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Work with switchgear, bus work, reclosers, and circuit breakers.
Size and select current transformers (CTs) and apply protective relay technologies (SEL, GE, Basler, ABB).
Coordinate project work, make design recommendations, perform calculations, and conduct field investigations.
Prepare equipment specifications and communicate with clients and external teams.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program, with 3+ years of electrical engineering experience (consulting preferred).
Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with successful FE exam completion and 3+ years of experience.
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of experience.
PE license or EIT preferred, with a desire to obtain it.
Knowledge of substation protection, control schemes, relay settings, and construction standards.
Interest in learning standards like NEC, API, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
Ability to solve complex problems with adaptable techniques.
