Performs laboratory tests, investigates and troubleshoots test results and/or system failures. Supports departmental QA program by performing and documenting quality control and preventative maintenance. Investigates, resolves and documents quality control or instrument maintenance problems. Prepares, monitors, and operates analytical test instruments to ensure that test results are medically reliable. Assists new employees with instrumentation operation and demonstration of proper procedures. Evaluates patients' samples to determine their suitability for examination and/or referral to a reference laboratory. Follows up, or investigates events or situations with specimens which may lead to adverse test outcomes. Performs proficiency testing, to meet regulatory requirements. Provides assistance to Phlebotomists, Data Clerks, Technicians, Nurses, and Physicians to include phlebotomy assistance and test ordering as necessary to ensure proper specimen collection, handling, labeling, and processing. Arranges with reference laboratory specimen pickups and test schedules to ensure adequate support for medical staff. Prepares and reviews test findings and results to be reported to physicians and other medical Provides physicians, and other medical personnel, information on the status of pending results. Coordinates inventories of supplies and reagents to ensure adequate, economical levels are Coordinates schedules, materials, and personnel to assist physicians with special patient procedures, such as bone marrow collection and processing of samples. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuryaccident to Manager. Knowledge Skills and Abilities / License or Certification Required

Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution and applicants must be eligible for an appropriate certification examination. Acceptable certifying agencies include: ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW). Associates Degree in laboratory science (Chemical or Biological Science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution and certification as a Medical Technologist. Acceptable certifying agencies include: ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW). Graduate of a Military Program in Science (health science, biology, chemical, physical, medical technology) and certification as a Medical Technologist. Acceptable certifying agencies include: ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW). Grandfathered Medical Technologist by having previously qualified as a technologist on or before February 28, 1992 and current certification as a Medical Technologist. Acceptable certifying agencies include: ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, HHS (HEW). Ability to implement and perform clinical laboratory procedures according to proper standards and regulations. Must submit to a Color-Acuity screening Test. Knowledge Skills and Abilities / License or Certification Preferred
