What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
Assign, analyze, sequence, and validate diagnosis and procedural codes based on medical record documentation
Ensure compliance with Official Coding Guidelines and maintain a 95% ongoing accuracy rate
Review medical records to determine and assign appropriate codes, modifiers, and charges
Query healthcare providers to clarify documentation for accurate coding
Maintain productivity logs and assist in the orientation of new coding personnel
What is Required (Qualifications):
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
Active CCS (AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist), CPC (AAPC Certified Professional Coder), RHIT (AHIMA Registered Health Information Management Technician), or COC (AAPC Certified Outpatient Coder)
Successful passage of the Medical Record Department Outpatient Coding Exam with a grade of 80% or better
At least 1 year of acute care hospital coding experience for complex outpatient encounters
Minimum 6 months of PC Windows experience
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
Experience coding for oncology/infusion clinics, outpatient surgery, and observation encounters
Additional certifications or specialized training in coding or health information management
Familiarity with coding compliance and reimbursement requirements
