Position Description The Director of Software Product Strategy leads the software product portfolio within the residential energy ecosystem, overseeing products such as the Installer commissioning app and portal, Fleet Manager, Homeowner mobile app, API services, and grid services software enabling Virtual Power Plant and other energy services. This role defines the vision for how software enhances and differentiates our energy solutions and implements an ownership model that assigns clear, focused leadership to each major product. The Director ensures that our offerings provide a seamless, integrated experience for installers and homeowners, unlocks new value streams, and aligns software development efforts across US, India, and Korea teams with market needs and the hardware roadmap.

Location: San Francisco or Santa Clara, California. 20% business travel (domestic and international).

Responsibilities

Define an ambitious vision and strategy for the suite of software products that support our energy solutions.

Develop a clear roadmap for each major software offering, ensuring it addresses customer needs and keeps us ahead of competitors’ capabilities.

Implement a “Single-Threaded Owner” model for software projects, assign dedicated product owners, mentor them, and ensure their work aligns with the overall strategy.

Act as the chief product liaison with software engineering, UX/UI design, and CS teams; translate product requirements into development plans and participate in the software development lifecycle.

Coordinate with firmware/hardware teams for features that span hardware-software and keep engineering efforts tightly aligned with product goals.

Engage with users (installers, homeowners) to gather feedback, identify pain points, and translate insights into innovative features; stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies.

Required Qualifications

12+ years of product management experience with a focus on software products, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.

Proven track record of leading product strategy for complex software or cloud-based services in energy management, IoT, or similar domains.

Experience delivering mobile applications and web platforms through multiple release cycles.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Strong understanding of modern software development practices (cloud architectures, APIs, agile methodologies) and ability to engage with architects and engineers.

Solid grasp of the energy industry as it pertains to software, including home energy monitoring solutions, installer operational software, and grid services platforms.

Demonstrated ability to set a strategic vision for software products and drive execution to measurable results.

Experience managing and mentoring product managers or product owners; capability to inspire and motivate a high-performance team.

Excellent collaboration skills in a matrixed environment; ability to synthesize input from design, engineering, data science, marketing, and operations.

Strong proficiency in analyzing product data and using metrics to guide decisions; familiarity with Google Analytics, Mixpanel, A/B testing frameworks, and KPI tracking.

Ability to adapt quickly to evolving technologies and maintain continuous curiosity about AI, edge computing, UI/UX trends.

Understanding of North American solar and ESS market dynamics and regulatory frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

Direct experience at a company that develops software for solar/energy.

Experience implementing an STO-type model.

Strong eye for user experience and design; experience collaborating with UX teams or conducting user research.

Experience building APIs and integrations for developers or engaging with open-source communities.

Deep knowledge of PV, Microinverter, ESS, Fleet Management, API, and grid integration technologies.

Experience in strategic planning, product commercialization, or sales in the North American solar and ESS market.
