JOB SUMMARY The Endoscopy Registered Nurse independently plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care and policy and procedure. Provides direct nursing care to patients. Assumes teaching and leadership responsibilities. Participates in unit committee and quality improvement activities. Needs minimal supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Locate and document medical and nursing patient care information in the electronic or paper medical record.
Pull up lab results using order entry computer.
Know that the medical record is the principal source of patient related information and locate pertinent information in the medical record.
Perform thorough admission assessment, utilizing appropriate interview techniques to obtain history within the time frame of unit policy.
Prioritize assessment/reassessments as patient condition warrants.
Assess age‑specific needs to patient population served.
Assess barriers to learning and utilize findings.
Identify and prioritize patient needs while evaluating data; utilize standards of nursing care to develop a sound functional plan of care.
Implement nursing care in an organized and efficient manner; evaluate effectiveness and interventions using critical thinking skills.
Diligently check emergency equipment and supplies when assigned.
Deliver patient care and treatment using problem‑solving skills.
Initiate and coordinate patient/family teaching using individualized effective teaching methods.
Evaluate outcomes of care to determine if patient needs were met.
Complete computerized documentation and chart forms fully; no blanks left and are legible.
Maintain positive and effective interaction skills through verbal and nonverbal communication with patients, families, peers, superiors, and physicians.
Provide feedback regarding problems and complaints, and offer constructive suggestions.
Use chain of command for problem‑solving and conflict resolution.
Prioritize patient treatment to best meet patient needs.
Complete care assignments in a reasonable amount of time.
Progress reports are made to the Charge Nurse as indicated; know when to ask for assistance.
Follow hospital standards related to Kronos system.
Have knowledge of the use of the supply system and efficiently dispense patient care items.
Accept responsibility for own learning needs, attend courses and in‑services offered, and maintain clinical skills specifically required on unit.
Maintain knowledge of current policies.
Perform cleaning and maintenance of scopes and equipment; identify repair needs.
Identify various endoscopes and accurately use them per procedure.
Serve as preceptor and/or mentor to new employees and students.
Adhere to infection control policies regarding sterilization/disinfection.
Actively assist and support departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget.
Understands the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement; look for opportunities and solutions for process improvements and seek to improve job skills.
Maintain principles of confidentiality and HIPAA; understand legal/regulatory requirements related to the release of information.
Use information systems pertaining to the job.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
