Overview
Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking two part-time assistant fencing coaches, one specializing in foil and one specializing in saber. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, Brown is a member of the Ivy League. The intercollegiate athletics program comprises 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes participating in NCAA Division I. These are part-time, varied hours positions that assist the Head Fencing Coach by overseeing practices and competitions, training players, developing game strategies, identifying potential student-athlete recruits, and occasional armory support. Essential Functions
Specialize in foil or saber. Assist in organizing, preparing, and conducting team practices, training, and competitions. Assist in identifying and recruiting prospective student-athletes for the intercollegiate women's fencing program, in accordance with NCAA rules and standards. Provide guidance and mentorship to student athletes. Assist with coordination and administration of the program as required. Assist with ensuring a safe training and competitive environment. Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree is required. Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience at the club or intercollegiate level, with a specialty in coaching foil or saber required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students. Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in foil or saber. Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment. Ability to foster a cooperative environment. Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Additional Information
All division employees must demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules. Duties are to be performed in compliance with NCAA and Ivy League rules; any violations should be reported to the compliance office. Coaching staff must receive annual rules education on NCAA recruiting legislation and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification available at no cost through the Division).
