Overview
Job Title: Process Controls Technician Supports plant operations through optimization and troubleshooting the industrial control system. Primary duties include editing PLC and SCADA code, updating electrical designs, and assisting electrical maintenance with troubleshooting. Collaborates with process engineering, production, and maintenance to improve plant reliability. Monitors industrial control system KPIs and takes corrective action to maintain system health. Manages small control system projects like adding instruments. Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and optimize industrial control system: PLC – diagnosing and fixing issues with PLC hardware and software, identifying faulty components and correcting programming errors. SCADA – updating SCADA to reflect changes to the PLC system. Basic SCADA troubleshooting. Motor controls and instruments – assist electrical maintenance with motor and instrument troubleshooting. Troubleshoot and program VFDs. Maintain control system health: use KPIs like PID loop percent time in auto and alarm frequency to monitor control system health. Identify and execute corrective actions to keep KPIs within acceptable ranges. Audit electrical rooms and areas for safety compliance and enter corrective actions for maintenance follow-up. Support engineering projects: assist with commissioning and startup support, collect field data and update documentation, oversee installation and setup of instruments. Manage small projects: develop electrical and industrial control system design for small projects like adding instruments or motors to existing systems, obtain quotes for materials and installation, track project execution (scope, schedule, and budget); generate design drawings and specifications, and oversee installation and lead commissioning. Employees are expected to perform other responsibilities as needed. Qualifications
Education:
Certificate in Electrical Automation Technology from an accredited technical or community college required. Associate’s degree in Electrical Automation or Controls or related field preferred. An associate degree substitutes for the experience requirement. Experience:
Three years of experience in industrial electrical maintenance or electrical process controls. Proficient in electrical and automation system design software, preferably: Rockwell Studio 5000, AVEVA System Platform, ThinManager, and AutoCAD Electrical. Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics and troubleshoot electrical systems. Ability to effectively communicate with all functional groups and through several levels of the organization. Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues quickly. Behaviors:
