Position: Senior Controls Engineer (Albuquerque, NM)
Responsibilities
Design and develop 480 VAC power and control systems, including motor branch circuits, power distribution, transformation, MCC design, and equipment specification.
Plan hazardous area designs (Class I Div. 1 and Div. 2) and ensure compliance with NEC and other national, state, and local code requirements.
Specify instrumentation, wiring, troubleshooting, and calibration.
Develop schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts. Provide technical direction to technicians creating drawings.
Deploy to customer sites to perform system checkout, start‑up, and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
Prepare final record systems documentation and deliver system training to customers.
Manage project scope, develop cost estimates, and execute implementation plans.
Assign work to meet project deadlines, monitor progress, and ensure all project team members understand the scope of responsibilities.
Handle purchasing and subcontractor requirements and propose change orders.
Act as Technical Lead or Project Manager; manage a team of engineers as required.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
10+ years of experience in electrical, instrumentation, and PLC control panel design, specification, and commissioning.
Proficiency with 480 VAC power distribution schematics and hazardous area requirements.
Experience with NEC and applicable code requirements.
Knowledge of construction, installation, maintenance, and testing activities to ensure compliance.
Familiarity with construction and installation standards for electrical contractors.
Proficient in CAD, Excel, and Visual Manufacturing software.
Ability to review fabricator and external design drawings and provide cost estimates.
Experience in life sciences, building automation, food & beverage, oil & gas, and mining.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Experience with PLC programming preferred.
Experience with AutoCAD desired.
Professional references (subordinate, peer, manager) required.
Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Physical Demands Seeing, color perception, hearing, clear speech, hand dexterity, driving, lifting, mounting/dismounting equipment, and pushing/pulling.
