Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. You will work on complex topics like how we use power and how to run state‑of‑the‑art, environmentally‑friendly facilities. You are a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and seeks improvements—driving ideas, communicating recommendations to senior‑level executives and leading implementation with facilities technicians.
With your technical expertise, you will ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical). You will play a key part in the design, implementation, and management of electrical systems for data centers, collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams including the Engineer of Record (EOR) to ensure facilities are built to high safety, reliability, and efficiency standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
12 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
12 years of experience with mission‑critical facilities and their electrical infrastructure.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field or a professional engineering license or a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Experience in estimating, electrical design, operation, and commissioning of substations, switchgear, ATP / ATS, emergency power systems and their control systems, power monitoring, and electrical protection.
Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of high voltage substations, medium or low voltage electrical distribution systems, AC / DC systems, and associated power management or SCADA tools.
Experience working with data center equipment and environments (e.g., switchgear, generators, transformers, controls, security monitoring systems, fire safety systems).
Experience with medium voltage systems.
Responsibilities
Provide expert technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
Develop, implement, and manage the mechanical designs at the site level, from basis of design to issuance of construction documents for new builds, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
Collaborate with the Engineer of Record (EOR) to respond to site‑specific engineering RFIs and ensure alignment between Google's requirements and the overall design.
Own and manage site‑level power system issues during project execution, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to identify and resolve challenges.
Work with the core engineering team to provide site‑specific requirements during Basis of Design (BOD) development and coordinate system‑level schematics with the EOR.
